Yes, you read the title right, that’s the name of this new standard for kids: K, as in Kindergarten, to 12th grade.
“The National Sexuality Education Standards were further informed by the work of the CDC’s Health Education Curriculum Analysis Tool (HECAT); existing state and international education standards that include sexual health content; the Guidelines for Comprehensive Sexuality Education: Kindergarten – 12th Grade; and the Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts and Mathematics5, recently adopted by most states.”

Rob will be talking Common Core with Linda Bell and Kirsten Block of Minnesotans Against Common Core, beginning at 4:15 p.m. The group is set to discuss the basics of Common Core as well as the effects on public, private and home schooling. Autonomy in the classroom is something that teachers find in short supply these days. Amy Price, a second-grade teacher at Berg Elementary School in Newton, Iowa, bares her heart when describing how Common Core has dismantled the joy of learning among her students. Unfortunately, it is no longer “her” classroom.
“We were given new materials packaged and sold as magic bullets to cover everything Common Core and we were instructed to follow it “without deviation”. There has been “little time for anything else but reading and math and tests, and tests, and tests.”
The transformation of education is nearly complete. Teachers have become drones.
